Accommodation
GLØD Aurora Canvas Dome
Really cool, stylish accommodation where you are so close to nature that you see and hear the squirrel outside the big window of the dome. The warmth from the wood-burning stove and a nice down duvet will steer you safely through the night. If you are very lucky, you will see the Northern Lights in the sky above you from your bed.
Breakfast is included and is served in the GLØD lounge.
We can offer a three course dinner every night. The menu varies according to the season, and we like to serve cod, lamb, reindeer, elk and salmon. Dinner must be ordered in advance.
The Aurora Canvas Domes have a small bathroom with toilet and you will find shower and sauna in the GLØD lounge about 30 m from the dome.
Our elegant Boutique Apartment for up to four (five) people is ideal for anyone who would prefer quiet and peaceful days in the pine forest in the countryside rather than staying in the town centre. You can relax and unwind in a peaceful setting where life and the time keep the same pace.
Breakfast can be included and will be served in the GLØD lounge.

All the food we serve is produced in our kitchen. We are proud to be able to offer both local food and an international menu, based on local and regional ingredients.
Typical raw materials with us are cod, salmon, shellfish, reindeer, lamb and moose. These are often served in the season for which they are typical.
Enjoy delicious food either inside the GLØD living room or outside in our large lavvo.
In connection with the stor-lavvoen, we have our own stylish outdoor area, with bar and outdoor kitchen. There, the service can also be more casual, such as barbecue and Italian pizza from our pizza oven.
Lufthansa will start flying to Alta, direct from Frankfurt, December 2025
SAS and Norwegian operate several direct, daily flights from Oslo Airport, Gardermoen, to Alta. The flight time is approx. 1 h 50 min.
You can also fly via Tromsø. The flight time Tromsø to Alta will be 30 min.
From destinations within northern Norway, such as Tromsø, Kirkenes, Hammerfest, Båtsfjord and Vadsø, the airline company Widerøe and the bus company Boreal can be used.
Here in Alta, Northern Norway, the days have been spent much like they should be — outdoors, in good company, and shaped by the rhythm of the season.
Now, winter is slowly stepping aside. The light stays longer, the air softens, and a new season begins to take form.
At GLØD Explorer, we’re already looking ahead to summer — to days filled with movement and time outside.
Our Arctic Living Active Holiday is built around just that: e-mountain biking along forest trails, canoeing on the Alta River, hiking with huskies, wild swimming in clear northern waters — and returning in the evening to the quiet of the pine forest, staying close to nature in our Aurora Canvas Domes, with good food prepared by our chef.
Five days of Arctic Living, in a different season. 🌱
The landscape changes — but the feeling stays the same.
This is Arctic Living — shaped by tradition, but always evolving.
For many, Easter is about skis and quiet days in the mountains. For us, it can also mean heading out on fatbikes — following prepared trails through the forest and across Finnmarksvidda, or riding freely as the spring snow begins to harden under the sun.
Alta has become a small paradise for this — wide tyres, steady rhythm, and that feeling of moving easily through the winter landscape.
It’s a different way to spend time outdoors, but the feeling is familiar: fresh air, good company, and long days outside.
However you choose to spend it — we hope you’re out there, enjoying it.
Easter in the North is not only about skis — it’s also about slowing down. ❄️🎣
Across Northern Norway, it’s a long-standing tradition to head out onto frozen lakes and rivers with family and friends in search of Arctic char. Sometimes on skis, sometimes with snowshoes, by snowmobile, or with a husky leading the way — always with time to pause along the way.
A small hole in the ice, warm drinks in hand, and good company nearby. Waiting, watching, and enjoying the quiet rhythm of the Arctic.
Here in Alta, we do much the same — heading out, finding a good spot, and staying a little longer than planned. 😎
Easter in Alta, Northern Norway — this is how it’s meant to be. ⛷️☀️
For many Norwegians, Easter is spent on skis. Heading into the mountains or forests with friends and family, following prepared tracks or making your own, stopping along the way for something warm to drink, something simple to eat, and time in the sun.
It’s not about distance or speed, but about being outside — all day if you can.
Here in Alta, we do much the same. Skis on, fresh air, and time together in the Arctic landscape as the light slowly returns.
A tradition shaped by nature, still very much alive.
