Accommodation
GLØD Aurora Canvas Dome
Really cool, stylish accommodation where you are so close to nature that you see and hear the squirrel outside the big window of the dome. The warmth from the wood-burning stove and a nice down duvet will steer you safely through the night. If you are very lucky, you will see the Northern Lights in the sky above you from your bed.
Breakfast is included and is served in the GLØD lounge.
We can offer a three course dinner every night. The menu varies according to the season, and we like to serve cod, lamb, reindeer, elk and salmon. Dinner must be ordered in advance.
The Aurora Canvas Domes have a small bathroom with toilet and you will find shower and sauna in the GLØD lounge about 30 m from the dome.
Our elegant Boutique Apartment for up to four (five) people is ideal for anyone who would prefer quiet and peaceful days in the pine forest in the countryside rather than staying in the town centre. You can relax and unwind in a peaceful setting where life and the time keep the same pace.
Breakfast can be included and will be served in the GLØD lounge.

All the food we serve is produced in our kitchen. We are proud to be able to offer both local food and an international menu, based on local and regional ingredients.
Typical raw materials with us are cod, salmon, shellfish, reindeer, lamb and moose. These are often served in the season for which they are typical.
Enjoy delicious food either inside the GLØD living room or outside in our large lavvo.
In connection with the stor-lavvoen, we have our own stylish outdoor area, with bar and outdoor kitchen. There, the service can also be more casual, such as barbecue and Italian pizza from our pizza oven.

Weekends in Norway are often spent watching ski competitions — then heading out on skis yourself. ❄️🎿
Around Alta, cross-country skiing is never just one thing. One day we ski above the tree line toward the Finnmarksvidda mountain plateau, the next we move quietly through pine forests — guided by weather, snow conditions, and the rhythm of winter.
Our cross-country skiing day tours in Alta are flexible and personal. Routes and terrain are chosen to match the day, with time to gather around an open fire for lunch, hot coffee, and tea. Sometimes we’re joined by a husky — for company, or to help pull the pulk with our gear.
This is Norwegian outdoor life in its simplest form: fresh air, movement, and time outside — no matter the plan.
Here’s to weekends spent on the outdoors and hopefully on skis 😎
Few places on earth feel as vast and untouched as Finnmark, Northern Norway.
Endless white landscapes, crisp Arctic air, long ski days — and at night, the chance of Northern Lights above a world without artificial light. ❄️✨
Our ski expeditions in Finnmark take you across the Finnmarksvidda mountain plateau and through protected wilderness areas such as Stabbursdalen National Park and Øvre Anarjohka National Park. These journeys move through some of the most remote and beautiful landscapes in the Arctic — shaped by the ice, Sami culture, reindeer, mountain cabins, and wide-open horizons.
We offer both easy and more demanding cross-country ski expeditions, from cabin-to-cabin trips where polar dogs pull the gear, to longer winter ski expeditions with tent nights and self-supported travel. All trips are led by an experienced wilderness guide, with carefully chosen equipment, a strong focus on safety, and meals prepared from local Arctic ingredients.
A few seats are still available on our ski expeditions this winter season. For those looking to spend real time in Arctic nature — moving slowly, skiing far, and living simply — join us this winter in Finnmark. 🤍...
Out on the Altafjord, the Arctic feels open and alive. Snow-covered mountains, cold northern light, and long stretches of quiet — this is Arctic nature at its purest. ❄️🌊
A boat trip on the Altafjord in Northern Norway is about experiencing the landscape and the wildlife that lives here year-round. From seabirds and sea eagles to the rich marine life beneath the surface, every journey offers something different.
Between November and January, the fjord also becomes a feeding ground for herring, and with them comes the possibility of seeing whales in Alta until early February. Humpback whales and orcas may move through the fjord during this time, following nature’s rhythm — sightings are never guaranteed, but always unforgettable when they happen.
Guided by experienced locals, move slowly through the fjord, learning about the ecosystems that thrive in these cold, nutrient-rich Arctic waters — and enjoying the stillness that defines winter in the north.
This is Arctic Living in Alta — wide, wild, and shaped by nature.
January has been pretty so far…pretty crazy for Northern Lights! 🌌✨
From spotting the Aurora Borealis on fat bike tours, to falling asleep beneath the Northern Lights in our Aurora Canvas Domes, to heading out on public and private Northern Lights tours in Alta — every experience has been different, and every one has been beautiful.
At Glød Explorer, we’ve been chasing the Northern Lights in Northern Norway since 2007. Our experienced local guides know that finding the Aurora is about reading the weather, chasing clear skies, and knowing the landscape — sometimes close to Alta, sometimes further afield.
We run our Northern Lights tours in small public groups and private experiences, with a focus on comfort and the best possible chance of seeing the lights — with photography guidance, warm soup, and Arctic scenery along the way.
January isn’t over yet. And the Northern Lights in Alta are just getting started. 🤩
